Eberhard Diepgen's Early Life and Education

Political Career
In 1962, Diepgen joined the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). His political aspirations led him to become the chairman of the local party branch in 1971. In 1983, he was elected chairman of the CDU's regional chapter in West Berlin, a position he held for an impressive 19 years.
As Mayor of Berlin
Diepgen's political ascendancy culminated in his election as the Governing Mayor of West Berlin in 1984, a position he held until 1989. After reunification, he was again elected as the Mayor of Berlin in 1991, serving until 2001. During his two terms, Diepgen played a pivotal role in shaping the city's development and international relations.
Parliamentary Leadership
