Ebru Özkan: From Childhood to Stardom
Childhood and Early LifeBorn on November 18, 1978, in Ankara, Ebru Özkan was the youngest daughter in a large family. Her childhood was marked by a sense of solitude as her older siblings had already left home and her parents were often away at work. This hyperactive child, covered in bruises, found solace in her own imaginative world, creating games and entertainment.
At the age of six, Özkan's family moved to Hacıbektaş in the Nevşehir province. Her parents were always supportive of her aspirations, including her early interest in performing, which she pursued in primary school. After graduating high school, she moved to Istanbul, but later returned to her hometown and enrolled at Bilkent University. However, she eventually withdrew and applied to Ankara University to study languages, history, and geography.
Early Career
While attending university, Özkan delved into local theater and modeling. In the mid-2000s, she met talent agent Jülide Kar, who was seeking theatrical actors for potential collaborations in the film industry. This connection led to Özkan's television debut in a series.
Breakthrough Roles
Özkan's breakthrough role came in 2007 with the miniseries "Tears of the City," followed by the mystical thriller "House of Nightmares: Winter's Tale." Her performance in the award-winning "Lady's Farm," based on Orhan Kemal's novel, solidified her status as a rising star.
Her next major success was the drama "Shattered," which explored the devastating consequences of a single human error. As Dilara, the fiercely determined wife of Cihan Güpınar (Erkan Petekkaya), Özkan's character divided viewers, eliciting both sympathy and condemnation.
Özkan eloquently defended her character, stating that while she would never condone her actions, she understood Dilara's reluctance to let go of a man she once loved and her unwavering determination to protect her family.
Personal Life
Özkan, a petite and striking beauty, has never faced a shortage of suitors, but it took her time to find true love. After dating Mert Fırat in 2008 and briefly being linked to Necati İşler, she entered a long-term relationship with Caner Cindoruk in 2009. Their romance ended in 2014, and she later found love with Ertuğrul Saban in late 2014 or early 2015.
The couple tied the knot on June 3, 2016, with a star-studded wedding attended by fellow actors such as Barış Falay, Erkan Petekkaya, and Ahu Yağtu. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Biricik, on January 12, 2018.
Current Projects
Özkan starred in the medical drama "Hekimoğlu," a Turkish remake of the popular American series "House." The show concluded in 2021, but there were rumors of a potential revival due to fan demand.
Özkan shared insights into her preparation for the role, emphasizing the importance of consulting with medical professionals to authentically portray hospital life. She also credited the contributions of a nurse and a doctor on set for their expert guidance.
