Edgar Bergen was born on February 16, 1903 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He spent his childhood in Decatur, Michigan. His parents had Swedish origins, so Edgar was well acquainted with both American and Swedish traditions.

Early Career

Bergen began his acting career at the age of 11, with ventriloquism as his first endeavor. He controlled a puppet named Charlie McCarthy. At the age of 16, he moved to Chicago with his family and completed his education while pursuing his passion. Edgar Bergen is a graduate of Northwestern University.
