Eddie Gathegi: From Basketball Aspirations to Hollywood Stardom
Childhood and EducationEddie Gathegi was born in Kenya on March 10, 1979, into a family with no ties to the arts. Despite his father's academic pursuits and his mother's role as a homemaker, Eddie's aspirations lay in basketball.

Upon graduating high school, Gathegi received an athletic scholarship to the University of California, Santa Barbara. However, a devastating knee injury shattered his dreams of a basketball career. Searching for a new path, he enrolled in acting classes and discovered his passion for theater.

With his parents' support, Gathegi auditioned for the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and was accepted on his first attempt.

Theatrical Beginnings
Gathegi's acting career commenced on the theatrical stage, where he portrayed memorable characters in classic Shakespearean productions such as "A Midsummer's Night Dream," "As You Like It," and "Othello."

Cinematic Breakthroughs
Gathegi's transition to film arrived with his debut in the action-thriller "Adrenaline" (2006), where he played a small role as a Haitian taxi driver. He joined the ranks of "House M.D." in its fourth season, portraying Dr. Jeffrey Cole, a candidate for Gregory House's (Hugh Laurie) new team.
The Twilight Saga
In 2008, Gathegi landed his most notable role as the vampire Laurent in the fantasy drama "Twilight." An avid fan of Stephenie Meyer's novel, he eagerly joined the cast alongside Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Gathegi's portrayal of Laurent garnered critical acclaim. He immersed himself in the character, learning French to capture Laurent's subtle accent.
Superheroic Triumphs
Gathegi showcased his versatility in "X-Men: First Class" (2011), playing Darwin, a mutant with the ability to "reactive evolve" to any environment.
Television Ventures
Despite a brief departure from the series "Justified" in 2014, Gathegi returned to television in "Startup" (2016), starring alongside Martin Freeman and Adam Brody. He took on a lead role in the psychological thriller "In the Cell" (2021), demonstrating his exceptional dramatic range.
