Biography of Édouard de Rothschild
Édouard Étienne Alphonse de Rothschild was born on December 27, 1957, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France. He is a French businessman and a member of the French branch of the famous Rothschild banking family.

Early Life and Education
Édouard is the son of banker Guy de Rothschild and socialite Marie-Hélène van Zuylen van Nyevelt. His father was Jewish, and his mother was of Egyptian, Dutch, and Jewish descent. He attended the private secular school Cours Hattemer, known for its famous alumni such as actress Brigitte Bardot and President Jacques Chirac. Édouard studied law at the Panthéon-Assas University in France and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University in 1985.

Career
In 2003, Édouard, along with his brother David René de Rothschild and cousin Éric de Rothschild, became the head of Rothschild & Cie Banque, a bank founded in Paris in 1987. He stepped down from the management in June 2004 but remained as the non-executive chairman of the supervisory board. Édouard was also a member of the supervisory board of Imerys S.A., a company his family had a significant ownership stake in, until May 2005. In January 2005, he invested €20 million to acquire a controlling stake (37%) in the French newspaper Libération.

Personal Life
Édouard has been married twice. In 1982, he married Valentine Abdy, a former wife of Sir Valentine Abdy. After their divorce in 1991, he married Arielle Marie Mallard, who holds a Ph.D. in economics and is the Vice President of the humanitarian organization CARE France. They have four children together: twins David and Aliénor de Rothschild, Ferdinand de Rothschild, and Louis de Rothschild.

Equestrian Passion
Édouard has always had a passion for horses. He started riding at the age of five in a pony club in Deauville. In his teenage years, he became interested in polo, but his parents did not approve. In 1973, he began competing and learning from Olympic champion Jean-Marcel Rozier. However, his professional career kept him away from the saddle until his forties. In 1997, Édouard built stables at the Rothschild family's residence, Château de Ferrières. He started riding once a week and eventually returned to competition. Today, Édouard competes nationally and internationally in equestrian events. He also inherited the thoroughbred breeding farm Haras de Meautry in Basse-Normandie, where he breeds racehorses.
Recognition
Thanks to his involvement in equestrian sports, Édouard was elected President of France Gallop, the French horse racing association, in 2004. In 2010, he represented Israel in international competitions after accepting an invitation from the Israeli Equestrian Federation. Despite his Jewish heritage, Édouard's passion for horses has taken him on a unique path in the world of finance and equestrian sports.
