Author, Lecturer, and Business Advisor

Jim Collins is an acclaimed business consultant, author, and lecturer renowned for his groundbreaking research and insights into corporate success.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1958 in Boulder, Colorado, Collins pursued graduate studies at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. In 1992, he received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater.

Lab and Corporate Experience

In 1995, Collins established the Management Lab in Boulder, where he continues to conduct research and train leaders from the corporate and social sectors. He has held senior executive positions at CNN International and served on the board of several organizations, including Johns Hopkins Medical School, the United States Marine Corps, and the Leadership Network of Churches.

Award-Winning Authorship

Collins has authored or co-authored five books based on his research. His seminal work, "Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies," spent over six years on Business Week's bestseller list and has been translated into 25 languages.

"Good to Great" and the "Level 5 Leader"

"Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't," examines the commonalities among companies that transition from good to exceptional performance. It has been a long-running bestseller on Business Week, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal lists, selling over 2.5 million hardcover copies and being translated into 32 languages. Collins's research identifies a "Level 5 Leader" as a paradox of personal humility and professional will, capable of transcending the limitations of traditional management styles.

Personal Life and Legacy

Collins is married to Joanne Ernst, a former triathlete and winner of the 1985 Ironman competition. He republished his grandfather's autobiography, "Test Pilot: The Frontiersmen of Flight," written by Jimmy Collins, his namesake. Jimmy was a pioneering test pilot for Grumman aircraft in the 1930s, whose story was immortalized on film starring Clark Gable. Collins carries the legacy of his grandfather by exploring the boundaries of leadership and organizational performance.
