Biography of Édouard Roger-Vasselin
Édouard Roger-Vasselin was born on November 28, 1983, in Gennevilliers, Hauts-de-Seine, France. He is fluent in French and English and has some knowledge of Spanish. Édouard started playing tennis at a young age, which is not surprising considering his family background. His father, Christophe Roger-Vasselin, was a former professional tennis player who reached the semifinals of the French Open in 1983 and won two doubles titles. His mother, Alexandrine Vaduijn, is an artist. Outside of the court, Édouard enjoys football (he supports FC Nantes), golf, having meals with friends, and watching movies with his girlfriend. He has mentioned that if he wasn't a tennis player, he would likely be a footballer or a professional golfer. His goal is to represent the national team in the Davis Cup.
Career Breakthrough
Édouard Roger-Vasselin had a breakthrough moment at the French Open when he participated in one of the Grand Slam tournaments for the first time. He made a remarkable run, reaching the third round. In the second round, he defeated Marcos Daniel from Brazil and then overcame the Czech player Radek Štěpánek, who was ranked 8th in the world at that time, in an epic five-set match on May 30, 2007, with a score of 3–6, 6–1, 0–6, 6–4, 6–4. Roger-Vasselin also reached the third round at Wimbledon, defeating Juan Ignacio Chela from Argentina. These performances helped him break into the top 100 players in the world, ranking 82nd.
Notable Achievements
In 2009, at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, Roger-Vasselin had a challenging draw as he faced Juan Martín del Potro, the winner of the 2009 US Open, in the first round.
