Pauline Parmentier: A French Tennis Star
Early Life and FamilyPauline Parmentier was born on January 31, 1986, in Cucq, France. Her parents, Jean-Philippe and Dominique, work in the cigar business, and she has two brothers, Olivier and Julien. Parmentier first stepped onto a tennis court with her family at the age of six.
Tennis Career
Parmentier made her Grand Slam debut at the 2004 French Open in doubles and in the singles main draw in 2005. In 2007, she reached the second round of the US Open singles, defeating Tatjana Malek before losing to Martina Hingis.
WTA Titles and Success
Parmentier has won two WTA tournament titles. She won her first WTA title in October 2007 at the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan. In July 2008, she won her second WTA title in Bad Gastein, Austria, defeating Agnès Szávay in the semifinals and Lucie Hradecká in the final.
Career Highlights
In July 2008, Parmentier reached a career-high ranking of No. 40 in the world in singles. She also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 146 in doubles in June 2009. Parmentier has won seven ITF singles titles and two ITF doubles titles.
Olympic Aspirations
Parmentier was a contender for the 2008 Olympic Games after Mary Pierce and Amélie Mauresmo withdrew their names.
Other Interests and Training
In addition to tennis, Parmentier enjoyed track and field in her youth. She trained at the Mouratoglou Academy for five years. Her favorite surface to play on is clay, and her best shots are her serve and forehand. Parmentier admires Roger Federer and Andre Agassi.
