Biography of Eduard Son

Eduard Son is a former Soviet and Kazakhstani football player who played as a forward and midfielder. He began his football career in the youth team of Karaganda's "Shakhter" under Serik Berdalin. In 1979, he joined a sports boarding school in Alma-Ata. In 1980, he was invited to play for "Kairat", where he initially played for the reserve team. From 1983 to 1985, he played for the main team, appearing in 31 matches and scoring 2 goals. He also represented the Soviet Union in the youth and junior national teams from 1980 to 1985.

Army Service and Career with Dnipro

In 1986 and 1987, Son served in the Smolensk-based team "Iskra". He initially played in the first league and then moved to the second league. In 1987, after a cup match against "Kolos" from Nikopol, he decided to accept an offer from the Dnipro team in Dnipropetrovsk. Son hoped to play as a forward in his new club, but due to tough competition, he was moved by coach Kucherevsky to the position of left midfielder. In his first season for the new club, Son played 29 matches and scored 8 goals.

He spent four seasons with Dnipro, becoming a champion and winner of the Soviet Cup. He also played in European competitions. In the 1990 season, he was the top scorer of the club, scoring 10 goals in 23 matches. In 1991, Son moved to France and joined the second division team "Gazélec". He signed a four-year contract with the French club. However, in his first season, he suffered a cruciate ligament and meniscus injury, which kept him out of the game for 9 months. Despite the club's initial intention to terminate his contract, Son worked hard to prove his value to the team.

Career in France and Retirement

In his second season with "Gazélec", Son became the top scorer of the team. However, the club lost its professional status and was relegated from the second league, leading to the termination of his contract. He soon received an offer from the third league club "Perpignan". With his new team, Son finished first in the league and became the top scorer with 14 goals. He hoped to extend his contract for two more years, but upon his return from vacation, he found out that the budget of "Perpignan" did not allow the team to compete in the second division. Son refused to accept a pay cut, and the club parted ways with him. He attempted to find a club in Israel but eventually returned to France. After meeting with the president of the amateur club "Roanne", he accepted an invitation to play for the team. He played for "Roanne" until 1998 while also pursuing business ventures.

As of 2000, Son resided in Roanne and owned a textile industry company. He met his wife Marina in Smolensk, and they have two sons named Evgeny (born in 1989, named after former Dnipro coach Evgeny Kucherevsky) and Andrey (born in 1993).
