Biography of Edyta Anna Górniak
Edyta Anna Górniak is a Polish pop singer who has been singing since the age of four. She made her debut on the big stage in 1989 on Zbigniew Górny's television program "Anyone Can Sing." In the same year, she was invited to participate in the "Debuts" concert at the Polish Song Festival in Opole, where she was recognized for her performance of the song "Zły chłopak" ("Bad Boy").
Two weeks before the festival, she met producer Janusz Stokłosa, who invited her to Warsaw to audition for the musical "Metro." The success of the show, which premiered on January 31, 1991, rewarded her for the months "thrown out of life." Edyta, who played one of the main roles, became an idol of her generation. She continuously performed in the musical for three years, always playing to full houses. She performed in 700 shows, including on Broadway, where she was praised for her exceptional beauty.
However, an offer to collaborate with the famous New York modeling agency "Elite" did not tempt the young vocalist, who decided to dedicate herself to singing. In July 1993, Edyta was invited to the Baltic States Festival in Karlshamn, where she took third place. In September of the same year, she participated in the performance "Throw a Penny into the Music Box" by the "BUFFO" theater group, where she sang "Kasztany" ("Chestnuts") and "Malaguena," songs that earned her the admiration of older listeners. In late 1993, Górniak received an offer from Polish Television to represent Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest, where the country was invited for the first time.
Her performance at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 in Dublin was a huge success for the young singer. Her magnificent voice and superb interpretation played a decisive role in the recognition of the song "To nie ja" by Stanisław Syrewicz with lyrics by Jacek Cygan, which came in second place, setting a record for a country participating in the competition for the first time. The tremendous success at Eurovision made Edyta incredibly popular throughout Europe.
However, this victory could have been in jeopardy. During the dress rehearsal, Górniak performed one verse of her song in English (i.e., a non-state language), which was against the rules. As a result, six countries demanded her disqualification. However, according to the rules, 13 countries had to vote for such a decision, which did not happen, and Edyta continued her performance. In the summer of 1994, Edyta successfully performed at the Polish Song Festival in Opole, receiving the Karol Musioł Award, as well as at the International Song Festival in Sopot.
In the same year, the singer began preparing material for her first album. The music company POMATON EMI, which signed a contract with the ORCA record label, released her first single "To nie ja" in Polish and English versions. At the same time, a music video for the English version of the song was released on television.
In 2002, Górniak signed a contract with Virgin Germany. In the same year, she performed the national anthem during the matches of the national team at the FIFA World Cup, but her style of performance received mixed reactions. Since 2002, she has been releasing albums under her own label, EG Production, and has started active collaboration with the group "Mathplanete." In 2006, she appeared on the cover of the Polish edition of Playboy magazine and recorded the single "Sexuality." She actively participates in voice acting for movies and animated films and takes part in TV shows.
