Biography of Ekaterina Avvakumova
Ekaterina Avvakumova is a South Korean biathlete who previously competed for Russia. She was born on January 24, 1992, in Veliky Ustyug, Russia. Avvakumova began her sporting career in pentathlon at the age of 14, training at the Children and Youth Sports School under the guidance of Pavel Ordin. In 2009, she switched to biathlon and moved to St. Petersburg to train under coaches Vyacheslav Nikiphorov and Y.V. Vasiliev. Later, she trained in Sochi under the guidance of V.V. Nikiphorov.

Achievements
Avvakumova's talent and dedication quickly led to success. In 2011, she won the bronze medal at the Junior Russian Championship. She also became a winner and medalist in several stages of the Russian Cup. In 2014, Avvakumova won the Summer Biathlon Championship of Russia twice. Her achievements continued in 2015 when she won the silver medal in the individual race at the Winter Universiade. The same year, she became the World Champion in mixed relay at the Summer Biathlon Championship.
Transition to South Korea
After several successful years representing Russia, Avvakumova decided to switch national teams and compete for South Korea. In 2017, she made her debut for the South Korean team at the IBU Cup in Val Martello, where she finished in 37th place in the sprint event. On February 15, 2017, she made history by becoming the first Korean athlete to participate in the flower ceremony at the World Championships in Austria. Avvakumova achieved this feat by finishing fifth in the individual race without any shooting penalties.
Personal Life and Education
Aside from her athletic pursuits, Avvakumova completed her education at the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health in Russia. She holds a degree from the university.
