Despite the romantic nature of the contest, there was not much romance involved due to the physical challenges. The couples had to eat, drink, and even use the restroom while maintaining their kiss. Their lips were not allowed to separate for a fraction of a second. Ekkachai and Laksana even had to use special equipment to transmit their locked lips to the restroom.

In the end, they surpassed all other competitors and exceeded the previous year's record by 8 hours. Their final time of 58 hours, 36 minutes, and 58 seconds entered the Guinness World Records as the longest kiss in the world.

The kissing contest is a very serious test of physical endurance. Participants had to stand for the entire duration of the competition, without sitting down for a minute during the 58 and a half hours. The other couple who posed a challenge to Ekkachai and Laksana was a pair of gay men, the winners of the previous year's contest. They collapsed from exhaustion just a couple of minutes before the Tiranarat couple.

As winners of the contest, Laksana and Ekkachai received a prize of 100,000 Thai baht, approximately $3,300, and a valuable diamond ring. After their victory, they were completely exhausted. The kissing marathon proved to be incredibly tough and demanding. This contest is not for beginners, and experienced and trained contestants mostly participate in it year after year.
