Biography of Elana Meyers
Elana Alessandra Meyers, an American bobsledder, is already a holder of one gold and two silver medals from the World Championships, and she won bronze at the Vancouver Olympics. Born on October 10, 1984, in Oceanside, California, Elana spent her childhood in Georgia, in the outskirts of Atlanta. During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Elana made a decision - she would definitely become an Olympic champion. She particularly enjoyed softball, which was part of the Olympic program at that time. Elana Meyers started playing in a softball team - first in middle school, then in college, and later in the George Washington University team. She then made it to the national team and won the Grand Slam tournament with them in 2007. In the same year, two significant events took place that shaped Meyers' future - she obtained a bachelor's degree in physical education and sports, and softball was excluded from the Olympic program. Elana wanted to retire from sports and pursue the study of medicine. However, before doing that, she decided to make one more attempt to fulfill her dream. In 2002, when bobsledders Vonetta Flowers and Jill Bakken won gold at the Salt Lake City Olympics, Elana Meyers' parents advised her to try this sport. She contacted a coach via email, went to Lake Placid, and was accepted into the national bobsled team. Initially, she was a brakeman for Shauna Rohbock, and together they won a silver medal at the 2009 World Championships in Vancouver. The following year, at the Vancouver Olympics, Meyers won bronze with Erin Pac. After the Olympics, Elana competed as a driver. In 2012, together with Emily Azevedo, she won the World Championships in Lake Placid, and in 2013, she took silver in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Currently, Elana Meyers is preparing intensively for the Olympics in Sochi and believes that she will achieve victory. She is considered the best bobsled driver of the modern era. In addition to her sports achievements, the famous bobsledder holds a master's degree in sports management, and currently studies finance. Moreover, Elana Meyers works extensively with youth. She volunteers at the Atlanta Health Center, conducts softball and soccer training sessions with children, gives lectures at schools, and also serves on the Board of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.
