Early Life and Artistic Education

Eleazar Langman, a prominent Soviet photojournalist, was born in Odessa in 1895. Prior to his involvement in photography, he pursued diverse artistic endeavors. Langman studied at the Odessa Art School, the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, and the Moscow Conservatory, where he honed his skills as a violinist.

Transition to Photography

Langman's transition to photography occurred relatively late in his career. Before becoming a photographer, he held various positions, including orchestra musician, concert performer, railroad emergency brigade leader, and assistant architect on the "Dynamo" stadium project in Moscow. These experiences enriched his perspective and informed his approach to photography.

Association with the "October" Group and Mentorship

As a photojournalist, Langman became an active member of the "October" group. He revered Alexander Rodchenko and Boris Ignatovich as his mentors and closely collaborated with the renowned "Ignatovich Brigade." His work was frequently featured in the newspaper "Vechernyaya Moskva."

Death and Legacy

In 1940, Langman passed away in Moscow, leaving behind a legacy of powerful images that documented the Soviet era. His contributions to photojournalism continue to be celebrated within the artistic community and beyond.
