Biography of Elhan Gasanov

Early Life and Career

Elhan Gasanov is a former Soviet and Azerbaijani football player. He was born in Azerbaijan and began his football career in 1985. Gasanov played as a goalkeeper and achieved the title of Master of Sports of the USSR.

In 1987, he enrolled in the Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Culture. Gasanov played for the leading Azerbaijan team, Neftchi, from 1985 to 1990. In 1991, he joined Dynamo in Gyandzha, followed by playing for Hazar in Sumgayit and Avtomobilist in Yevlakh in 1992. Gasanov returned to Neftchi in 1993 and played for the team until 1997.

International Career and Later Years

Gasanov also had international experience, having represented Azerbaijan's national team from 1992 to 2000. In 1997, he played for the Finnish club TPS in Turku, participating in both the league and the Intertoto Cup. Gasanov returned to Neftchi in 2001 before joining Shafa, a club in the Azerbaijani Premier League, in the summer of the same year. He also had a short stint with Karvan and Inter in Baku.

In 2004, Gasanov played for Karabakh in the Commonwealth of Independent States Cup at the request of the team's head coach. He continued his football career with Karvan and later Inter until 2009 when he made the decision to retire from professional football.

After retiring, Gasanov became a goalkeeper coach for the club Karabakh in Agdam. His achievements as a goalkeeper include being ranked 66th among 433 best goalkeepers in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. He kept his goal intact for 943 minutes between April 6, 2001, and May 18, 2003, while playing for Neftchi.

Personal Life

Elhan Gasanov is married to Alla Gasanov, a renowned Azerbaijani volleyball player and former captain of the Azerbaijani national volleyball team and Azerrail club. Alla Gasanov now trains young Azerbaijani volleyball players.

Throughout his 17-year football career, Elhan Gasanov played 203 matches in the Azerbaijani championships, conceding 139 goals. He holds the record for the lowest average goals conceded per game among Azerbaijani goalkeepers.
