Early Life and Career
Elke Sommer was born Elke Schletz on November 5, 1940, in Berlin, Germany. Her father was a pastor. In 1958, while on vacation in Viareggio, Italy, Sommer won the Miss Viareggio contest by chance.
Acting Debut and Hollywood Stardom
In 1958, Sommer adopted the stage name "Sommer" and began her acting career. In 1962, she made her Hollywood debut in the film "The Time Machine." In 1964, she moved to the United States permanently.
Artistic Pursuits
In 1966, Sommer began exploring painting under the pseudonym E. Schwarz. She has resided in Los Angeles since that time.
Personal Life
Sommer married Joe Hyams in Las Vegas on November 19, 1964. They divorced in 1991. On August 29, 1993, she married Walter Wolf in Franconia, Germany.
