Childhood and Early Career

Elke Winkens was born on March 25, 1970, in Germany. Her father was a Dutch dancer, and her mother a German engineer who worked in textile development. Growing up in various countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Africa, Winkens took ballet lessons at the age of six.

By eight, she had started gymnastics and excelled, winning several titles in floor exercises. She also competed in German and European Dance Carnival Championships. At 18, Winkens moved to London, where she studied at the London Studio Centre School.

Transition to Acting

Winkens later relocated to Vienna and enrolled in the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. She received training in singing, dancing, and drama. Her involvement in the cabaret group Die Hektiker led to her television debut, with roles in the TV magazines _Zell-O-Fun_ and _One_.

Breakthrough and International Success

In 1997, Winkens made her film debut in _Heroes of Tyrol_ as Emma, gaining recognition among Austrian audiences. Her international breakthrough came in 2002 when she landed the role of Niki Herzog in the detective series _Inspector Rex_. She also appeared in a supporting role as Ines Schneider in the series _In the Last Second_.
