Biography of Ellen Ripley
Ellen Louise Ripley was born on January 7, 2092, in the American colony 'Olympia' on the Moon. She obtained a degree in mechanical engineering from the New York University of Aeronautics and worked with the American Trade Fleet as the second pilot of the ship 'Zheliazny'. After that, Ripley became a member of the crew of the hyperspace spacecraft 'Nostromo'. During a layover between flights, Ellen violated her employer's rules, the Weyland-Yutani company, and became pregnant naturally. This led to the birth of her daughter Amanda, but Ripley was not disciplined for her actions. Prior to the fateful flight on the 'Nostromo', Ellen tried to renegotiate her contract to take a leave of absence and spend more time with her daughter. The company agreed to release her immediately after the next flight.
In the movie 'Alien' in 1979, Ripley is portrayed as a warrant officer of the starship 'Nostromo' flying from the planet Thedus to Earth. After a long period in hypersleep, the crew wakes up when the 'Nostromo' receives a signal of unknown origin from a nearby planetoid designated as LV-426. The crew discovers an alien spacecraft, from which an unknown creature boards the 'Nostromo' and kills all other crew members. Ripley is the only survivor, abandoning her ship before its destruction. She boards the escape shuttle 'Narcissus', where an alien organism infiltrates, but she manages to eject it into open space. In the sequel, the movie 'Aliens' in 1986, the drifting shuttle 'Narcissus' is found 57 years later. Ripley, awakened from hypersleep, tells the story of the extraterrestrial creature, but no one believes her. She is stripped of her flight license. She also learns that her daughter Amanda died of cancer at the age of 66. Then a message arrives that the colony 'Hadley's Hope' on LV-426 has gone silent. Ellen is convinced to fly to the planet as a consultant aboard the ship 'Sulaco', with a crew consisting mostly of seasoned space marines. The planet is infested with 'aliens', and almost all of the marines become their victims. Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, android Bishop, and the young colonist Newt manage to return to the 'Sulaco' before the atmospheric processor explodes. The alien queen, the mother of the creatures, infiltrates the ship, and Ripley, using a power loader, battles the monster. The queen is ejected into space. The three surviving members of the crew enter hypersleep and head towards Earth.
In the third film, 'Alien 3' in 1992, the 'Sulaco' catches fire, and the escape pods with the surviving passengers are placed into a lifeboat. They crash-land on the planet Fiorina 'Fury' 161, where a maximum-security correctional facility houses only male inmates who have committed physical or sexual violence. Only Ripley survives among all the members of the 'Sulaco'. A facehugger, the face-grabber, from one of the pods starts to destroy the prisoners but does not harm Ripley. Ellen discovers through a scanner that she is carrying an embryo of the alien queen and decides to destroy herself. The remaining prisoners manage to pour molten lead on the alien, which cannot withstand the temperature change and explodes. Ripley, with the embryo inside her, falls into a vat of molten metal and dies.
In the film 'Alien Resurrection' in 1997, events move forward 20 years. Ripley's DNA remains are successfully cloned aboard the ship 'Auriga'. The queen alien is surgically extracted from her body. It is revealed that Ellen's DNA has mixed with the queen's DNA. The clone gains acidic blood, enhanced physical abilities, and an empathic connection with the aliens. At the same time, Ripley's DNA is present in the queen. The queen stops laying eggs and gives birth to a different creature with a human face, unlike the regular 'alien'. The newborn hybrid does not recognize its mother and kills her. Instead, it perceives Ripley as its mother. After escaping the 'Auriga' spaceship, Ripley finds herself on the Betty spacecraft, where the hybrid infiltrates. Ellen uses her blood to burn a small hole in the observation panel, sucking the monster into the vacuum of space, tearing it apart.
In all four movies, the role of Ellen Ripley was portrayed by actress Sigourney Weaver. This character remains the most iconic and recognizable in Weaver's list of roles to this day.
