Ellie Challis, a British girl who underwent amputation of all her limbs, is a true inspiration to many, even those who are healthy. Recently, she had the opportunity to meet Oscar Pistorius, the world's fastest amputee runner, and even had a playful race with him.

Early Life

Ellie Challis was born in 2004 in Essex, England. She has a twin sister named Sophie. Her parents, Lisa and Paul, were overjoyed to welcome their two blonde-haired baby girls into the world. The family already had older siblings at the time.

Health Challenges

Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived, as Ellie fell ill at 16 months old. She woke up one morning with a high fever and her little legs were constantly freezing. Concerned, her parents rushed her to the hospital, but the tests showed no abnormalities. However, when they returned home, they noticed red spots on Ellie's body. Lisa suspected it was meningitis. They immediately rushed back to the hospital as Ellie's condition worsened. After a few hours, Ellie's heart stopped beating, and her devastated parents desperately pleaded with her to breathe and live. Against all odds, Ellie survived. However, four days later, her hands and legs had to be amputated.

A New Beginning

"We were devastated," Lisa later confessed. "All I could think about was whether she would ever be able to live a normal life." The six-hour surgery to amputate Ellie's limbs left her parents in tears, along with her older siblings. Happiness seemed to have left their family forever. However, Ellie eventually returned home from the hospital, and it was during this time that her twin sister, Sophie, became crucial in her life. Sophie was always by Ellie's side, helping her in any way possible, and, most importantly, never leaving her alone.

Adapting to Prosthetics

Ellie was not initially pleased with her first prosthetics. They were heavy, inflexible, and caused her pain, so she would only wear them for about 20 minutes a day. However, her second set of prosthetics, made in Dorset, gave Ellie the ability to not only walk but also participate in sports. It was evident that Ellie had to work hard to take her first steps on her prosthetics, and she underwent specialized rehabilitation programs.

Football Passion

As Ellie grew older, she became more active and discovered her love for football. Her favorite team is Arsenal, and she watches all their matches with her father. Eventually, she joined a football team at her school. At the age of 5, Ellie had a special visitor - Oscar "Blade Runner" Pistorius, who also runs with prosthetics. In a playful race, Ellie confidently outpaced Oscar, which made her truly happy.
