Biography of Emil Boc
Emil Boc was born on September 6, 1966, in the village of Răchițele, Cluj County. He is the youngest child of Ioan and Ana Boc and is one of five siblings. Emil is married to Oana, who is a lecturer at the university, and they have two daughters, Kezara and Patricia.
Mayor of Cluj-Napoca
In 2004, Boc won the mayoral elections in Cluj-Napoca, the largest city in Transylvania. Prior to this, he served as the acting president of the Democratic Party, a position proposed by Traian Băsescu, the president of Romania. Despite facing tough competition from George Funar, who had been the mayor for twelve years, and Ioan Rus, a candidate from the Social Democratic Party, Boc emerged victorious with 76.2% of the votes, becoming the mayor of the largest city in Transylvania.
Premier of Romania
Following the economic crisis in 2008, Cluj-Napoca stood as one of the most resilient cities in Romania. After the 2008 elections, the Democratic Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party joined forces to form the government. Initially, Traian Băsescu appointed Theodor Stolojan as the prime minister. However, on December 15, Emil Boc was appointed as the head of the government. His candidacy was approved by the parliament, and since December 22, 2008, Emil Boc has been serving as the Prime Minister of Romania.
