Biography of Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson was born on April 15, 1959 in Paddington, United Kingdom. She is an English actress and screenwriter. Coming from a theatrical family, Thompson studied literature at Cambridge University and wrote sketches for student shows in which she also performed. She began her acting career on television and in London theaters.
Actress and Screenwriter
After meeting and marrying actor and director Kenneth Branagh, Thompson acted alongside him in his films and showcased herself as a vibrant and humorous, yet intellectually refined actress who could convey deep emotions with subtlety. These qualities were most evident in her performances in period films such as "Howards End" (1992), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress, and "The Remains of the Day" (1993), where she portrayed characters from past decades with the best traditions of English subtlety.
Thompson's talent was further demonstrated in her adaptation of the classic novel "Sense and Sensibility" (1995), for which she wrote the screenplay and played a deeply sensitive yet resilient heroine who avoids falling into nervous sensitivity. In her contemporary roles, on the other hand, the actress portrays a determined and assertive nature, such as in the film "In the Name of the Father" (1993).
