Early Life and Career

Erhan Derdiyok, a Swiss footballer of Kurdish descent, was born and raised in Switzerland. Derdiyok began his football journey at Old Boys FC, a club in one of Switzerland's lower divisions.

Breakthrough at Basel

In his debut season, Derdiyok's exceptional performance, scoring 10 goals in 18 matches, caught the attention of FC Basel. He joined Basel and, while initially struggling to secure a regular starting role, managed to score his first league goal in the 2006/07 season.

Rise to Prominence

The following season, Derdiyok established himself as a key player for Basel, scoring 10 goals in 36 matches. His impressive performance earned him recognition as the Swiss Young Player of the Year. Rumors of a potential transfer to Newcastle United surfaced, but Derdiyok remained with Basel for the 2008/09 season.

Move to Germany
