Career Beginnings
Born in France, the eponymous French racing driver embarked upon his racing journey with a Championship title in Formula Renault in 1985. Two years later, he ascended to the French Formula 3 series, claiming a Vice-Championship title.
Formula 3000 and Formula 1 Breakthrough
1988 marked his entry into the international Formula 3000 circuit, where he secured a victory at the Jerez circuit. A year later, he made his Formula 1 debut with Larrousse, competing in two races.
Larrousse Years
In 1990, he continued his stint with Larrousse in Formula 1, amassing three points finishes and ultimately placing 13th in the World Championship. However, 1991 proved to be a challenging season, with only a single sixth-place finish and two race disqualifications. Tragedy struck at the Japanese Grand Prix, where an accident resulted in a broken leg.
Recovery and Return
After his recovery in 1993, he became a test driver for Ligier. In 1994, he returned to Formula 1 with the same team, achieving a podium finish at the German Grand Prix amidst numerous retirements by his rivals. The same year, he raced once for Lotus.
Post-Formula 1 Career
Following his departure from Formula 1, the driver competed in the FIA GT and ALMS championships.
