Biography of Eric Borel
Eric Borel was born in 1978 in Pau, France, to Marie-Jeanne Parenti and Jacky Borel. Both his parents were in the military, but their marriage ended shortly after Eric's birth. Until the age of 5, he lived with his paternal grandparents, but one day his mother took him to her home to upset her boyfriend, Yves Bichet. Surprisingly, both Yves and his son Franck took a liking to Eric, and they spent a lot of time together. However, Eric's mother was cold and despotic, always criticizing him and subjecting him to cruel beatings. She firmly believed that Eric was a "child of sin" according to God's word. This abusive and religiously strict environment took a toll on Eric's personality. He became withdrawn and aggressive, even shooting at chickens and pigeons with an air pistol.
Education and Change in Behavior
Eric attended Georges-Cisson vocational high school in Toulon, where he was known as a diligent and conscientious student. However, in his final year, he started skipping classes, complaining about problems, and using foul language. He often argued with teachers and expressed his desire to join the army, claiming that he was tired of everything. His behavior became more alarming when he declared that he would soon kill himself along with a few other people.
A Troubled Family and Tragic Events
Rumors circulated about Eric's family, with some suggesting that his stepfather was obsessed with Hitler's ideology. They claimed that his room was covered in posters and swastikas. Additionally, Eric was accused of being involved with his cousin, although these allegations were never confirmed. On September 23, 1995, at 6 am, Eric shot his stepfather four times with a .22-caliber rifle. He then proceeded to kill his stepbrothers before his mother arrived home and was shot in the head without having a chance to react. There are conflicting reports about Eric hitting his mother's body with a baseball bat, although this detail was not included in the official case.
After disposing of the bodies, Eric covered them with newspapers, closed the curtains, and gates, and left the house with a backpack containing all the family's money and valuables. His attempt to steal a car failed, so he spent the rest of the day in the vineyards. The following morning, Eric went to the house of Alan Guillemette, his only friend. After a brief conversation, during which Alan nearly cried, Eric turned around and shot him in the back. He then wandered the streets, shooting indiscriminately. Just before the police arrived, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. In total, Eric killed 15 people and injured 4 others, surpassing the record previously held by French farmer Christian Dornier, who killed 14 people on July 12, 1989.
