Eric Christian Olsen is an American film and television actor, known for his roles in projects such as "Pearl Harbor," "Smallville," the comedy "Hot Chick," the series "24," and many others.
Early Life and Education
Eric Christian Olsen was born on May 31, 1977, in Eugene, Oregon. His father taught English at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, although Eric grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. Here, he attended school and discovered his talent for hockey, playing on the local team. He also studied Japanese and wrote for the local newspaper. Most importantly, he played the lead role in almost every school production.
Acting Career
In 1999, at the age of 21, Eric moved to California with only $500 in his pocket, pursuing his dream of becoming an actor. This decision was prompted by a commercial shoot, after which he realized that acting was what he wanted to do. In his first week of auditions, Eric landed a small role in a television series episode, and later, the role of Arthur in the TV movie "Arthur's Quest" in 1999. That same year, he appeared in two more series, playing in an episode of "Turks" and portraying Travis Mitchell in an episode of "ER." However, his most significant role was his recurring part in the series "Get Real," where he appeared in 17 episodes. Olsen was awarded the "Young Artist Award" in 2000 for his outstanding performance in this series.
Eric made his big-screen debut in 2000 with the release of the film "Mean People Suck." This low-budget youth comedy was well-received by audiences, and its director received an award for Best Student Film. Olsen played one of the teenagers named Nick.
In 2001, the star-studded film "Pearl Harbor" was released, in which Olsen played a small role as a gunner. Immediately following, in 2002, the comedy "Hot Chick" hit theaters, where Eric was already in a leading role. The film was quite successful both at the box office and in ratings, further adding to Olsen's fame.
In 2003, the film "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" was released, but it was a commercial failure. Olsen received the "Teen Choice Award" for "Worst Actor" along with his co-star Derek Richardson. However, this did not deter Eric. He continued to work and soon played a cameo role in the series "24" and a small role in the suspense thriller "Cellular," where he worked with Kim Basinger and Jason Statham.
Eric has been actively working and appearing in numerous films and series in recent years. Within the last five years, several movies and TV shows have been released with his participation.
