Erich Fromm, a prominent German musicologist, was born in Magdeburg, Germany. He initially studied composition at the Magdeburg Conservatory under the guidance of Otto Volkmann and later pursued further musical studies in Munich from 1925 to 1928. There, he refined his skills in composition with Walter Courvoisier and delved into the intricacies of music theory with Adolf Sandberger.

Fromm actively engaged in music criticism and dedicated his research to exploring the history of Magdeburg's musical landscape. His notable contribution was the publication of his first independent biographical sketch on Georg Philipp Telemann in 1931, commemorating the composer's 250th anniversary.

Groundbreaking Collaboration

In 1935, Erich Fromm, along with Otto Kobin, made a significant discovery by publishing the Sonata F-A-E, an exceptional piece of music composed collaboratively by Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Albert Dietrich. Teaching and Academic Achievements

During World War II, Fromm taught at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Following the war, he held teaching positions at the Detmold Academy of Music from 1949 to 1953.
