Biography of Erik Satie
Erik Satie, a French composer, was born on May 17, 1866. He only studied at the conservatory for one year before playing in musical cafes and writing music to accompany the poems of suburban poets. In the early 1920s, young French musicians began to gather around Satie, forming the "Arcadian School".
Formation of "Les Six"
Satie was one of the founding members of "Les Six," a creative collective of French composers that emerged after World War I and existed in the 1920s. These composers, with different artistic inclinations, were united by their desire for novelty and simplicity, as well as their rejection of musical impressionism.
Innovative Works
Satie primarily composed music for the piano but also delved into the realm of musical theater. He created ballets such as "Parade" and "Relache and Mercury," as well as musical plays like "Genevieve de Brabant" and "Socrates." He later composed a small pantomime called "Jack in the Box," with the instrumentation being completed by Milhaud.
