Early Life and Education
Born on March 17, 1938, in Moscow, the renowned Russian filmmaker embarked on his cinematic journey at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). In 1961, he graduated with distinction from the cinematography department under the mentorship of the acclaimed Aleksandr G. Galperin.

During his time at VGIK, he worked as a laboratory assistant in the cinematography department. Upon graduation, he gained valuable experience as an operator for Leningrad Television, honing his skills in capturing compelling visuals.
