Eunice Huthart: The British Double of Angelina Jolie
Early Life and Gladiator TriumphEunice Archer (born November 2, 1966) is a British stuntwoman and former winner of the UK show "Gladiators," where amateur athletes competed against each other. As the only UK participant to return to the show as a gladiator named "Blaze," Huthart emerged as the female champion in 1994. Following her victory in the domestic competition, she went on to win the international version of the show. Subsequently, she transitioned from being a trainer of future gladiators on the show to pursue a career as a stunt double in the film industry.
Hollywood Stunt Double Success
Huthart's career took off in 1995 when she debuted as Famke Janssen's stunt double in "GoldenEye." To date, she has amassed an impressive 46 film and television credits in this capacity. Notably, she has served as Angelina Jolie's stunt double for many years, performing stunts in films such as "Gone in Sixty Seconds" (2000), "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (2001), "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005), "Wanted" (2008), "Salt" (2010), and "The Tourist" (2010).
Collaborations with Hollywood Stars
Beyond her work with Jolie, Huthart has doubled for a range of other Hollywood stars. After "GoldenEye," she became Milla Jovovich's double in "The Fifth Element" (1997) and worked on "Titanic" (1997), "The Avengers" (1998) where she stood in for Uma Thurman in dangerous stunts, "Entrapment" (1999), and another James Bond film, "The World Is Not Enough" (1999).
Notable Stunts and Safety Risks
Huthart's career has involved performing demanding stunts, requiring precise execution and risk assessment. In "The Beach" (2000), she doubled for Virginie Ledoyen in a scene where her character runs to the edge of a waterfall and jumps. This daring stunt required her to sprint fast enough and jump far enough to avoid falling onto submerged rocks below, which could have been fatal.
Later Career and UK Work
Huthart has since worked on "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003), "Troy" (2004), "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005), and served as one of the stunt coordinators on "V for Vendetta" (2005) with Natalie Portman and "Alice in Wonderland" (2010). In the UK, she worked as a stunt coordinator on the sci-fi crime series "Paradox" and the dark comedy "Dark Shadows" (2012). Huthart is currently working on the fantasy film "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie.
