Early Life and Education
Eveleen Kaplun was born in Leningrad, USSR, in 1971. In 1987, she enrolled in acting classes, setting the stage for her future career.
Journey to Israel
In 1990, Eveleen initiated her aliyah to Israel, leaving her homeland behind in search of new opportunities. She quickly adapted to her new surroundings and began her foray into the Israeli film industry.
Cinematic Breakthrough
Eveleen's cinematic debut came in 1997 with the film "Afula Express." Her captivating performance earned the film six Ophir Awards (the Israeli equivalent of the Oscars) and the Volgin Prize for Best Israeli Feature Film at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
Marriage and Film Success
In 1997, Eveleen married director Erik Kaplun, a fellow Soviet Union emigré. Their collaboration flourished in the film "Yana's Friends" (1999), in which Eveleen played the lead role of Yana, a young Soviet immigrant adjusting to life in Israel during the Gulf War. The film received critical acclaim and won ten Ophir Awards, the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and top prizes at both the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Cinemanila Film Festival in the Philippines. Eveleen's performance earned her Ophir, Karlovy Vary, and Philippine awards for Best Actress.
Hollywood and Return
In 2000, Eveleen and her husband moved to Los Angeles, where she pursued a career in film editing. In 2004, they returned to Israel, where Eveleen resumed her acting career. She appeared in the film "The Syrian Bride" and the television series "Criminal Correspondent."
Acclaimed Performances
Eveleen's talent continued to shine in "This Wonderful Country" (2005), where she portrayed a prostitute. The film won four Ophir Awards and the Volgin Prize at the Jerusalem Film Festival. Her performance earned her another Ophir nomination. Eveleen was nominated once more for her supporting role as Rosika in "Letters to America" (2006).
Recent Projects
Since 2006, Eveleen has appeared in the television series "Eighth Grade," while also serving as an assistant editor on the show. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to portray complex and relatable characters have made her one of the most respected actresses in Israeli cinema today.
