A Legacy on Ice: Igor Chinyaev's Figure Skating Journey
Born in Russia, Igor Chinyaev honed his figure skating skills as a youth. His talent led him to the international stage where he represented Lithuania alongside Russian skater Svetlana Kulikova during his junior years.
Australian Dreams
In 1999, Chinyaev made the momentous decision to emigrate to Australia. Fate smiled upon him when he met and married Maria Borunov in 2002. Together, they embarked on a journey as an ice dancing duo, representing Australia.
Triumphant Ascendancy
The 2005-2006 season marked a significant turning point for the pair as they debuted on the international scene. Their hard work culminated in a resounding victory at the 2007 Australian Figure Skating Championships.
Training Regimen
Until 2010, Chinyaev and Borunov resided in Moscow and trained under the tutelage of renowned coaches Elena Kustarova and Svetlana Alexeeva. Despite their physical distance from Australia, they maintained their affiliation with the Cockburn Ice Arena in Perth, Maria's hometown.
Self-Guided Success
In the 2010-2011 season, the duo took an unconventional approach by training without a coach. They choreographed their own programs, demonstrating their adaptability and determination.
