Biography of Evgeny Barsukov

Evgeny Barsukov was a Russian and Soviet military commander and military scientist. He held the rank of Major General in the artillery (1940). He graduated from the Alexandrovskoye Military School in 1885 and completed two classes at the General Staff Academy in 1895.

Service and Contributions

From 1899, Barsukov served in the Main Artillery Administration. From 1910 to 1915, he worked on assignments under the Inspector General of Artillery and as a member of the Artillery Committee of the Main Artillery Administration. He also taught at the Officer Artillery School. During World War I, he served as the head of the Field Inspector General's artillery department at the headquarters and chaired the commission for the organization of special-purpose heavy artillery.

Transition to Soviet Power

After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Barsukov sided with the Soviet authorities. In April 1918, he was appointed the artillery inspector of the Western Front. From November 1918 to February 1919, he commanded the Minsk (Western) Military District, and then worked in the administration of the special-purpose heavy artillery.

Later Career and Achievements

Starting from 1924, Barsukov focused on scientific research in the Department of Research and Utilization of War Experience. He became a Doctor of Military Sciences, a professor, and a full member of the Academy of Artillery Sciences.

Throughout his career, Barsukov received several honors and awards, including the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
