Evgeny Sergeevich Fominov: A Master of Realistic Landscapes
Evgeny Sergeevich Fominov (1928-1974) was a renowned Russian painter celebrated for his mastery in realistic landscape painting. A member of the Soviet Union of Artists (1960), his artistry left an indelible mark on the realm of landscape painting.
Childhood and Education
Born in Arzamas, Nizhny Novgorod Governorate (now Nizhny Novgorod Oblast), on June 12, 1928, Fominov's childhood unfolded in a cultured merchant family. Early on, his passion for drawing became apparent to esteemed artists Alexei Vasilyevich Khramov and Leonid Yakovlevich Karataev, masters of realistic landscapes influenced by Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov and Isaac Ilyich Levitan.
Upon their advice, Fominov enrolled in the Ufa Theater and Art College (now the Ufa School of Arts) without entrance exams, demonstrating exceptional talent. His paintings caught the attention of the 1948 All-Union Exhibition in Moscow. However, his studies were interrupted by his military service in the Far East, where he continued to create mesmerizing landscape paintings.
Artistic Career and Recognition
Following his military service, Fominov resumed his studies, graduating in 1953 under the tutelage of Alexander Erastovich Tyulkin, a renowned artist in Bashkiria. His diploma work, "The Boatman on the Belaya River," received critical acclaim. In 1954, he married Nina Anisimovna Vydrina.
By 1960, Fominov had become a full member of the Soviet Union of Artists. His mastery of capturing the interplay of light and shadow on water bodies earned him widespread recognition. His talent was further celebrated at the 1969 Decadal Exhibition of Artists of Bashkiria in Moscow and Leningrad, where Alexei Mikhailovich Gritsai, a renowned landscape painter, expressed his admiration.
Legacy and Family
Fominov passed away at the age of 46 in Ufa on October 16, 1974. He left behind a legacy of exceptional paintings that continue to inspire and enchant viewers.
Fominov was survived by his children. His daughter, Larisa Fomina (1955), became a fashion designer and costumer, while his son, Vadim Fominov (1965-1992), followed in his father's footsteps as an artist, specializing in landscapes.
