Biography of Evgeny Moshkov
Evgeny Yakovlevich Moshkov was born on November 20, 1920, in the city of Chembar, Penza region, into a military family. His father, Yakov Egorovich, a descendant of a peasant family, was a Red partisan and a participant in the Civil War. After its end, he returned to his homeland - the village of Pervomaisky in the Rostov region, where he actively participated in the creation of a collective farm and became its first chairman. This is where Evgeny's childhood was spent. In 1929, after his father's death, the Moshkov family moved to the city of Krasnodon. Evgeny studied at secondary school No. 1 named after A.M. Gorky. After completing 7 grades, he started working as an apprentice electrician in the mines, and later became an electrician. In 1937, he was selected as one of the best workers to attend mining machine operator courses. After completing the courses, he worked at Mine No. 1-bis. In his free time, Evgeny participated in a stringed instrument circle at the A.M. Gorky Club, where he met future underground activists L. Shevtsova, S. Tyulenyin, and N. Ivantsova. The leader of the circle, Vladimir Kuznetsov, later a Hero of the Soviet Union, who received this high title during the war battles for the Dnieper, described Evgeny Moshkov as "a modest, strong-willed person, cultured and sociable, very hardworking. He enjoyed great authority among his comrades."
In 1939, Evgeny was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. He served in the aviation in the Caucasus. He was accepted into the Communist Party during his service. During parachute training jumps, he was injured and after treatment in the hospital, he was demobilized. In late September 1941, he was called up to the active army. The unit he fought with, near the city of Millerovo, became surrounded. Finding himself in captivity, he managed to escape and return to occupied Krasnodon. Moshkov joined forces with F.P. Lutikov, the leader of the party underground. Carrying out his orders, he distributed leaflets, participated in the creation of anti-fascist underground Komsomol groups, and later helped unite them into the "Young Guard" combat organization.
Leader of the Underground
Evgeny Moshkov became the liaison between the party and Komsomol underground. At the same time, he led one of the "Young Guard" groups operating in the area of Mine No. 1-bis. As a front-line soldier, he taught his comrades to handle weapons and camouflage themselves. He successfully carried out a series of military operations. In November 1942, the group of underground activists led by him attacked the Volchensky camp and liberated Soviet prisoners of war. In early December, he commanded the destruction of enemy vehicles on the Krasnodon-Sverdlovsk road: three trucks loaded with fuel were burned. By F.P. Lutikov's order, in December, Evgeny Moshkov became the director of the A.M. Gorky Club, which became the headquarters of the "Young Guard". Here, he organized art self-expression circles, in which many underground activists participated. The director managed to obtain special certificates for them, stating that they were on service and not subject to sending to Germany.
In the club, headquarters meetings were held, plans for upcoming operations were discussed and developed, and from here many "Young Guard" members went on combat missions. On January 1, 1943, Moshkov was arrested at the A.M. Gorky Club. With his hands tied, beaten, he was taken home, searched, and then taken to the police station. The executioners demanded that he reveal the names of underground activists and indicate where the weapons were stored.
He was subjected to inhuman torture. Exhausted and weakened, the enemies of Evgeny drove him around the city, hoping he would show them the weapon cache. But the brave underground activist remained steadfast. During one of the interrogations, Evgeny daringly attacked a police officer. The fascist beasts then hung Moshkov by his feet and held him in that position until blood poured from his nose and throat. They took him down and continued the interrogation. But Moshkov, a courageous communist, spat in the face of his torturer. The enraged interrogator who had been torturing Moshkov struck him in the head. Weakened by the torture, the hero-communist fell, hitting the door jamb with the back of his head and died.
On January 15, 1943, the Nazis dropped Evgeny Moshkov's body into the shaft of Mine No. 5. He was buried in a mass grave of heroes in the central square of Krasnodon.
Evgeny Yakovlevich Moshkov was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class and the Medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" 1st Class.
