He was an avid reader and had a deep understanding of Russian history, particularly interested in the history of Russian weapons. He was also skilled in painting, dancing, and computer programming. Alexander idolized his father, obeying him in all matters, and considered military uniform to be the best attire for men. As soon as he became self-aware, he decided to dedicate his life to the profession of defending his homeland.
During his childhood, Alexander prepared himself for military service by engaging in sports, hand-to-hand combat training, and honing his shooting skills. His father constantly shared his combat experience gained in Afghanistan with his son.
In 1994, Alexander successfully graduated from school and enrolled in a military academy. The years of study further toughened him and developed his sense of camaraderie, military brotherhood, and justice. In 1998, he graduated with honors from the S.M. Kirov Military Academy in St. Petersburg and was assigned to a training unit in the Moscow Military District to train junior specialists. To fully utilize his abilities during combat exercises and shooting, Alexander aspired to join a combat unit. In 1999, he managed to transfer to the 27th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade in the Moscow Military District. When the order came to send officers to Chechnya, Lieutenant Solomatin was among the first. He was assigned to the 245th Rifle Regiment of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division of the 22nd Army.
