Yevgeny Veltistov: Soviet Children's Author
Early Life and CareerYevgeny Sergeyevich Veltistov was born in Moscow on August 22, 1934. He graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University, and worked in the press and in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
Literary Beginnings
Veltistov began his writing career in the late 1950s. He became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR in 1966. His first science fiction publication was the novella "Adventures on the Sea Floor" (1960).
Rise to Fame
Veltistov's rise to fame was driven by his cycle of works about Elektronika, a robot boy created as a replica of a human schoolboy, Sergey Syroezhkin. Notable works include:
