Biography of Eva Podles
Eva Podles is a renowned Polish opera singer, specializing in the contralto voice range. She is known for her incredibly wide vocal range and flexibility.

Early Life and Education
Eva was born in Warsaw, Poland. She began her vocal training at the Warsaw Academy of Music under the guidance of Madame Bolechowska. There, she mastered the secrets of vocal artistry and technique.

Operatic Career
Eva made her opera debut as Rosina in Gioachino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" in 1975. On February 14, 1984, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. However, that year was not very successful for her, as she had limited opportunities to perform. It took her more than 24 years to return to the prestigious New York opera house. During that time, Podles conquered numerous major opera theaters in Europe and America.
Accident and Repertoire
In May 2003, Eva was involved in a car accident in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which resulted in a broken arm. Despite this setback, she continued to excel in her career. Eva is best known for her baroque roles but has a diverse repertoire ranging from Handel's "Giulio Cesare" to Shostakovich's compositions. She particularly excels in contralto roles, especially those from Rossini's operas. Additionally, she is considered an expert in Russian music.
Recognition and Recent Performances
Eva Podles earned the nickname "Force of Nature" due to the unique and spontaneous power of her talent. Some of her most recent notable performances include "La Gioconda" by Amilcare Ponchielli, Handel's "Rodelinda" and "Giulio Cesare," Rossini's "Tancredi" and "L'italiana in Algeri." She also portrayed Erdy in Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" with the Seattle Opera and Clytemnestra in Richard Strauss' "Elektra" with the Canadian Opera Company.
Personal Life
Currently, Eva Podles resides in Warsaw with her husband, renowned pianist Jerzy Marchwinski.
