Biography of Fabio Luisi
Fabio Luisi is a contemporary Italian conductor. He was born on January 17, 1959, in Genoa, Italy. He studied at the Conservatorio Nicolò Paganini under the guidance of Memi Schiavina. After completing his studies in piano, Luisi continued his training with renowned pianist Aldo Ciccolini and conductor Antonio Bacchelli.

Early Career
Luisi became interested in conducting while working as an accompanist pianist and began studying conducting at the Graz Conservatory in Graz, Austria, under the instruction of Croatian conductor Milan Horvat. He worked as an accompanist and conductor at the Graz Opera Theater and made his conducting debut in Italy in 1984.

Professional Engagements
From 1990 to 1995, Luisi served as the principal conductor of the Graz Symphony Orchestra. He then held the position of artistic director and chief conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Vienna from 1995 to 2000. Additionally, from 1996 to 1999, Luisi was one of the three principal conductors of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig, Germany, alongside Marcello Viotti and Manfred Honeck.
From 1999 to 2007, Luisi was the sole principal conductor of the MDR Symphony Orchestra. He also served as the principal conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva from 1997 to 2002 and became the principal conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 2005.
Recent Career

During his tenure with the Sächsische Staatskapelle, Luisi participated in commercial recordings of music by Richard Strauss and Anton Bruckner.
However, in February 2010, Luisi resigned from both Dresden orchestras following a dispute with the management of the Sächsische Staatskapelle over a televised concert without his consultation. Despite this, Luisi made his Metropolitan Opera conducting debut in March 2005, leading the performance of Giuseppe Verdi's "Don Carlos."
In June 2009, Luisi became the general music director of the Oper Zürich, initially signing a five-year contract. In April 2010, he accepted an offer to become the principal guest conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, following the footsteps of Valery Gergiev. Luisi is known for his recordings of several operas, including works by Verdi and Gioachino Rossini.
