Early Life and Career
Fayruza Balk was born on May 21, 1974, in California, USA. Her father was a musician, and her mother was a belly dancer. At a young age, Balk's parents divorced, and she moved with her mother to Vancouver, Canada, where her acting career began.
Education and Breakthrough
In 1983, Balk appeared in a small television series for children and later studied at the Royal Academy of Dance in England. Her breakthrough role came in the film "Return to Oz" (1985), where she played the lead character Dorothy.
Stardom in Europe
Balk continued to gain recognition for her roles in "Valmont" (1989) and "The Worst Witch" (1990). She lived in Paris during this time.
