Childhood and Early Life

Fares Fares(born April 29, 1973) is a Lebanese-Swedish actor known for his roles in both Swedish and Hollywood films. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, to Assyrian parents, Fares and his family fled the Lebanese Civil War in 1987, settling in the small Swedish town of Örebro. Despite not knowing Swedish upon arrival, he quickly mastered the language and pursued technical science studies, initially aspiring to become an engineer. However, his life took a different turn when he was invited to join Örebro's theater group in the late 1980s.

Theater and Early Film Career

At 19, Fares moved to Gothenburg and studied acting for two years. He spent the next six years performing on stage at the independent Tamauer Theatre, later participating in productions at the Gothenburg City Theatre, the Stockholm City Theatre, and the Royal Dramatic Theatre. However, it was his film debut in the comedy "Jalla! Jalla!" directed by his brother Josef Fares, that marked the beginning of his cinematic career.

Hollywood Breakthrough

Fares' first major Hollywood role came in the 2010 action film "Easy Money." The film received international acclaim at the Berlin Film Festival and was picked up by Harvey Weinstein's studio for distribution in the US, Germany, and Italy. Two years later, Fares joined the cast of Universal Pictures' "Safe House," alongside Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.

"Department Q" Series

In 2013, Fares starred in the Danish thriller "The Keeper of Lost Causes," the first film in the "Department Q" series. He played the role of Assad, a devout Muslim detective partnering with Carl Morck (Nikolaj Lie Kaas). Despite his initial reluctance to take on the role due to his busy schedule, Fares connected with Kaas, leading to a strong on-screen chemistry.

"Tyrant" and "Westworld"

In 2014, Fares joined the cast of the drama series "Tyrant" as Faouzi Nadal, a reporter fighting for freedom. He later appeared in a recurring role in the show's second season and made a guest appearance in the third. Fares also played Antoine Costa, a security team member, in the second season of the HBO science fiction thriller "Westworld."

"Chernobyl" and "Partisan"

In the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl," Fares portrayed Bacho, a Georgian soldier who had fought in the Afghan War. He also created, starred in, and wrote the screenplay for the drama miniseries "Partisan," which premiered in 2020.

Personal Life

In 2018, Fares married Swedish artist and photographer Clara Hallencreutz. They have two sons together: Ziggy and Tino. Fares also has a daughter, Alida, from a previous relationship with actress Alida Morberg.

Recent Work

Fares' recent projects include the 2022 drama "Cairo Conspiracy," which received the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is Sweden's official submission for the 2023 Oscars.
