Biography of Fedor Radus

Fedor Radus was a bomber pilot and a Hero of the Soviet Union, born on April 21, 1940. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov 2nd class, two Orders of the Red Star, and several medals. Radus was born into a working-class family in Ukraine. He completed his education at the Grozneft Construction Vocational School and later worked as an instructor-carpenter at the Grozny FZU No. 1. He became a member of the Communist Party in 1930 and joined the Red Army in 1931. In 1933, he graduated from the military school for naval pilots and navigators in Yeysk.

Radus participated in the Soviet-Finnish War and commanded a squadron in the 57th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 8th Baltic Fleet Air Base. He carried out several combat missions deep into enemy territory and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. On February 29, 1940, Radus made a landing on enemy territory and rescued the crew of a downed Soviet aircraft.

On April 21, 1940, Captain Fedor Nikiforovich Radus was honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He took part in the Great Patriotic War from June 1941 and was involved in the defense of Sevastopol. He flew Pe-2 aircraft as part of the 62nd Special Purpose Mixed Aviation Regiment, and later served in the 40th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the Black Sea Fleet Air Force.

Afterwards, Radus commanded an aviation regiment. In 1956, Colonel Radus graduated from the General Staff Military Academy. He then served as a military advisor in the People's Republic of Bulgaria. He entered the reserves in 1960. He lived and worked in Zhytomyr.
