Felice Casorati: Background and Education

Felice Casorati, an Italian artist, was born into a military family. During his childhood and adolescence, Casorati's family relocated frequently, living in Milan, Sardinia, and Padua. Initially pursuing a career as a pianist, he earned a law degree from the University of Padua. Simultaneously, Casorati studied painting in Pavia and Naples.

Early Artistic Development

Influenced by Symbolism and Art Nouveau, Casorati's early works bear a strong resemblance to the style of Gustav Klimt. In the early 1920s, he embraced the Metaphysical Realism of Giorgio de Chirico, applying its principles of spatial composition to his own paintings. Subsequently, he delved into the art of the Renaissance, particularly the works of Piero della Francesca.

Artistic Output and Influences

Casorati's oeuvre encompasses still lifes, genre paintings, religious scenes, female portraits, and nudes. He also worked as a theater designer. In the late 1920s, he founded his own art school in Turin and taught at the Turin Academy of Arts.

Recognition and Legacy

During the 1930s, Casorati participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, receiving awards such as the painting prize at the Venice Biennale in 1938. In 1955, he exhibited at the documenta 1 exhibition in Kassel, solidifying his place in the contemporary art world.
