José Carlos Mariátegui: A Visionary Peruvian Writer and Journalist
Formative Years in JournalismJosé Carlos Mariátegui began his illustrious journalism career at a young age. In 1912, he assumed the role of editor for "La Prensa" and "La Crónica." He went on to edit "Variedades" magazine.
Editorial Leadership
From 1916-1917, Mariátegui served as editor of "El Perú." Alongside renowned caricaturist Julio Málaga Grenet, he co-edited the weekly "Don Lunes" in 1917.
Founding "Nuestra Época"
In 1918, Mariátegui collaborated with César Falcón to establish the weekly publication "Nuestra Época." This bold endeavor aimed to critique societal norms and pave the way for future socialist organization. However, after only two issues, publication ceased.
Collaborations and Legacy
Subsequent to the closure of "Nuestra Época," Mariátegui remained active in the media sphere. He became a contributor to "Mundial" magazine (1920) and later wrote for "El Comercio" newspaper. Throughout his prolific career, Mariátegui's insightful writings and incisive journalism left a lasting impression on Peruvian society and beyond.
