Zambian Football Star: Isaac Chansa
Early Career in ZambiaIsaac Chansa began his professional football career with Zambian lower division club, Butondo Western Tigers. In 2001, he moved to Forest Rangers, a Zambian Premier League side. A year later, Chansa joined Green Buffaloes, a club sponsored by the Zambian Ministry of Defence. He spent three seasons with the club.
International Journey
In 2005, Chansa moved to South Africa, signing with Jomo Cosmos. However, he struggled to break into the first team and spent 2006 back at Green Buffaloes. In 2007, he signed for Angolan Premier League club, Petro Atletico.
French Adventure and Return to South Africa
In January 2008, Chansa signed a 2.5-year contract with French club, Rennes. He failed to become a regular starter, making only 8 appearances for the reserve team, scoring 2 goals. He was subsequently loaned to Chateauroux. Upon his return to Rennes, Chansa was released. In July 2009, he joined South African Premier League club, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Success in Libya
In July 2010, Chansa joined Al-Ittihad on a free transfer. The club had won the Libyan Premier League. He played in the CAF Confederation Cup, scoring a crucial goal against Jomo Cosmos and another in the match against ASFAN. Al-Ittihad reached the semi-finals, losing to eventual champions, FUS Rabat.
National Team Career
Chansa has represented the Zambian national team since 2004. He won the COSAFA Cup in 2006 and participated in the African Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008, and 2010. In 2010, the team reached the quarter-finals.
Personal Life and Legacy
Isaac Chansa is the younger brother of former Zambia captain, Chris Katongo.
