Gaetano Scirea, an Italian football player, is rightfully considered one of the most outstanding defenders in the history of world football. He gained fame for his exceptional sporting talent and remarkable personal abilities - he was not only a brilliant defender but also a true gentleman of the beautiful game. Gaetano Scirea is an Italian footballer who is regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the history of the sport. He was born in Cernusco sul Naviglio, Milan, but his origins were Sicilian. Scirea made his debut in the Serie A on September 24, 1972, playing for Atalanta. He spent two seasons with the club before moving to Juventus, where he remained until the end of his playing career. In total, Scirea played 397 matches in the Serie A and scored 24 goals. He achieved impressive results with Juventus, establishing himself as an exceptional individual player as well as an excellent team player, alongside Antonio Cabrini, Claudio Gentile, and goalkeeper Dino Zoff. One of Scirea's most notable achievements is winning all domestic and UEFA competitions throughout his career with Juventus. He won 7 Serie A championships, 2 Coppa Italia titles, 1 UEFA Cup, 1 Cup Winners' Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and 1 Intercontinental Cup. Underestimated and Undervalued

He also had the opportunity to represent the Italian national team. Scirea made his debut on December 30, 1975, in a match against Greece. It quickly became clear that Scirea was a key player for the national team as a whole. Under the guidance of Enzo Bearzot, Scirea participated in 3 World Cups and one European Championship. The last tournament took place in Italy in 1980, where the hosts finished in 4th place. Scirea retired from professional football at the end of the 1987-1988 season. He initially worked as a talent scout for a club and then transitioned to coaching. Alongside Antonio Cabrini, Claudio Gentile, Dino Zoff, and forwards Giuseppe Bergomi and Franco Baresi, Scirea was one of the key players for the national team. Tragic Accident
In the summer of 1989, Scirea went to Poland to observe the game between Górnik Zabrze and his former club Juventus in the UEFA Cup. Unfortunately, the trip ended in tragedy. On September 3, 1989, the car Scirea was traveling in collided with a truck near Babsk. The head-on collision could have cost him his life, but the situation was further complicated by the cargo carried in the truck. At that time, there were certain fuel problems in Poland, so the truck was carrying 4 fuel canisters. The explosion of these canisters resulted in the death of 3 passengers, including Gaetano Scirea.
