Early Life and Career
Varanyan began his coaching career in 1984, earning the Master of Sports and Honored Coach of the Armenian SSR titles the same year.
Syunik FC
Varanyan's first major coaching assignment came in 1991, when he led Syunik FC of Kapan to victory in the Soviet Second Lower League. However, he departed the club after the first round of the following season.
Zangezur FC and Second Stint at Kotayk FC
In 1996, Varanyan joined Zangezur FC of Goris and later returned to Kotayk FC as their manager. Under his leadership, Kotayk performed below expectations, being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Armenian Cup and finishing 7th in the league.
Lernagorts FC and A Move to Ararat FC
Varanyan moved to Lernagorts FC of Kapan in 2000 and remained with the club until May 2001. He then joined Ararat FC of Yerevan as an assistant coach and took over as head coach in November 2001, replacing Rafael Galustyan.
Coaching Carousel at Ararat FC
Varanyan's tenure at Ararat FC was marked by coaching changes. After the end of the championship, he returned to his assistant coaching role before being promoted to head coach again in September.
