Biography of Ferdinand Keller

Ferdinand Keller was a Swiss archaeologist who gained significant recognition for his discoveries. He started his career as a teacher at an industrial school in Zurich. However, it was his findings in 1853 of pile structures that brought him widespread fame. Keller published a series of valuable studies on these structures in "Mitteilungen der Antiquarischen Gesellschaft" (Volumes 9-20, Zurich, 1854-1879).

Keller's research on Swiss history during the Helvetian-Roman era and the early medieval period was also published in the same journal, as well as in "Anzeiger für Schweiz. Geschichte und Altertumskunde" (Zurich, 1855-1868) and "Anzeiger für Schweiz. Altertumskunde" (Zurich, 1868). These publications showcased his numerous investigations in the field.

Aside from his notable discoveries, Keller also authored other works. These include "Bauriss des Klosters St. Gallen von 820" (Zurich, 1844), which focused on the architectural plans of the St. Gallen Monastery, and "Archäolog. Karte der Ostschweiz" (Zurich, 1874), an archaeological map of Eastern Switzerland.
