Biography of Fernando Alonso
Early Life and CareerFernando "El Nano" Alonso Diaz was born on July 29, 1981, in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. His mother worked in a department store, while his father, Jose Luis, worked as a mechanic at an explosives factory. Fernando has an older sister named Lorena. At a young age, Fernando showed a passion for karting, which his father had intended for his daughter. He won three consecutive karting championships from 1994 to 1997 and became the karting world champion in 1996.
Formula 1 Career
Alonso made his Formula 1 debut in 2001 with the Minardi team and became a test driver for Renault the following year. Starting in 2003, he was a key driver for Renault. In 2005, at the age of 24, Alonso became the youngest Formula 1 champion, a title he successfully defended in 2006, becoming the youngest two-time champion. He joined McLaren in 2007 but returned to Renault in 2008 and 2009. Alonso represented Scuderia Ferrari in 2010 and came close to winning the championship but finished as the runner-up. He finished second three times in his career and won eleven Grand Prix races.
Later Career
Alonso left Ferrari at the end of 2014, two years before his contract expired. He currently races for the McLaren team. He is also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Alonso holds several records, including being the youngest driver to achieve pole position and win a Grand Prix until Sebastian Vettel broke those records in 2008. He also holds the record for the most points scored in a career until it was surpassed by Vettel in 2015.
Personal Life
Alonso initially moved to Switzerland in 2006 for lower taxes and later relocated to Lugano in 2010 to be closer to the Ferrari team base in Maranello. However, he returned to Oviedo in 2011. He was in a civil partnership with singer Raquel del Rosario from 2006 to 2011 and had a relationship with model Dasha Kapustina from 2012 to 2015. From 2015 to 2016, Alonso dated Spanish TV presenter and model Lara Alvarez. Despite being engaged, they never married due to their busy schedules. Apart from his dedication to Formula 1, Alonso is passionate about road cycling and has friendships with professional cyclists such as Alberto Contador, Miguel Indurain, and Samuel Sanchez.
