Overview
Feeleeis an independent Russian record label and concert promoter founded in 1986. Since its inception, the company has focused on promoting alternative and experimental music.
Early Success
Feelee played a pivotal role in bringing emerging avant-garde bands to Moscow in the late 1980s, including Nautilius Pompilius, Vopli Vidoplyasova, and Ne Zhdali. In 1988, the label began organizing concerts by international artists, starting with World Domination Enterprises and Sonic Youth.
Record Label Expansion
In 1991, Feelee partnered with VID television to produce the unprecedented "Rock Against Terror" charity festival. The festival's success led to the launch of Feelee's record label, which released the compilation album of participating artists. To date, the label has a catalog of over 150 titles.
Alternative Scene Domination
In 1994, Feelee signed Tequilajazzz, which became the label's flagship band and a prominent force in the Russian alternative scene. The same year, the label released the first albums from Western independent labels, including Dead Can Dance and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
International Collaboration
In 1996, Feelee expanded its international reach by becoming the licensing agent for 4AD Records in the CIS. This was followed by partnerships with Mute Records, Beggars Banquet Records, and other renowned independent labels. As a result, Feelee released albums by global stars such as Depeche Mode and the Prodigy.
Festival Expansion and Innovation
Feelee also established the "Learn to Swim" extreme music festival in 1995. The festival grew into an international event, taking place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the Black, Azov, and Baltic Sea regions. In 1996, the company launched the first Punk-Fest, featuring renowned bands such as The Exploited and The Stranglers.
Recognition and Awards
Feelee's contributions to the music industry were recognized with the "Record" national award in 1998 for Depeche Mode's "Ultra" as the best-selling album by a foreign band.
Current Operations and Future Plans
Feelee continues to operate as a multi-faceted company, engaging in record distribution, concert promotion, and artist management. The label maintains a focus on alternative music while embracing a broad range of styles. With plans to expand its online presence and mail-order services, Feelee aims to connect with audiences in innovative and accessible ways.
