Biography of Fiona Cunningham
Fiona Cunningham is a British woman and the organizer of a charitable "anti-cancer" project. The idea to draw attention to the needs of anti-cancer organizations came to Fiona Cunningham by chance. However, she chose a means to attract attention so successfully that she managed to raise over 8 million pounds sterling. Selfies, self-portraits taken on smartphones or cameras, were well-known to active social media users, but they were never considered as an art form. Recently, however, these self-portraits managed to raise a whopping 8 million pounds exclusively for charitable purposes.

Interest in this project was not only due to its unusual format but also to the personality of its organizer. It turned out that the successful campaign was launched by an 18-year-old mother from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Fiona Cunningham was inspired by the actress Kim Novak, who attended the Oscars without any makeup. On her page, Cunningham suggested that people share similar "makeup-free" selfies of themselves while also donating money to the British Cancer Research Fund (Cancer Research UK).

Cunningham could hardly have imagined the tremendous success that awaited her project. Within a few days of its launch on March 18th, her page received 260,000 likes from users all over the world. Fiona was inundated with selfies and had to seek the help of a dozen friends to manage the overwhelming amount of photos and upload them to Facebook. Just four days after the campaign's launch, Cancer Research UK announced that Cunningham's efforts had raised a total of 2 million pounds. Donations did not stop there, and by now, the amount has exceeded 8 million pounds, with funds still pouring in.

Fiona decided to draw public attention specifically to the fight against cancer due to the impact the disease had on her own family. Several of Cunningham's relatives suffered from breast cancer, and in one case, it proved fatal. After reading an article about Kim Novak's unusual act, Cunningham realized the charitable potential of this project. She believed that the eccentric concept of the "makeup-free selfie" could attract the attention of at least a few users on Facebook and raise some funds for the oncology fund.
Initially, Fiona planned to select a fund specializing in breast cancer. However, she later decided to focus on a more general level. Cunningham explains that women often do not need makeup, and it is only the fear of something new and unconventional that prevents them from admitting it to themselves. Fiona openly admires women who can do without excessive makeup, primarily idolizing the inspiration behind the entire campaign, Kim Novak.
The impact that this amusing idea had on social media users shocked Fiona but she quickly recovered from the shock. With the help of her friends, she managed to handle the flood of photos. Although it required a considerable effort, the feeling of being involved in a good cause greatly contributed to her energy and overall enthusiasm. Fiona's husband, Carl, also supported her and expressed his sincere pride in her incredible achievement.
Representatives from Cancer Research UK also commented on Fiona Cunningham's campaign. The sudden surge of donations was as unexpected for them as it was for Fiona. However, they will undoubtedly find a way to make good use of this unexpected gift from fate. The company's employees have already thanked Fiona and everyone who responded to her initiative.
